It can be even harder if you felt that you were in love and this was the person you had all of your future plans with. It's easier when you were only casually dating but it still can be a very tough thing to do. They way in which you choose to handle the task of ending the relationship will have an effect on both you and the person you are breaking up with, so make sure you choose the correct way to do it. Face to FaceThe best way to end a relationship, whether it's a casual one or long term, is to do it face to face. You owe it to the other person to do this and it gives you both some closure. It also shows that you have character. The problem with this method is that it's the hardest way to do it. Therefore, many people look for alternative methods to accomplish this task. We believe that you should not be one of these people. Suck it up and do what you have to do. Some people like to break up in a restaurant, thinking that the other person won't make a scene, but of course, this is not always true. Perhaps a public park might be a better venue? Letter or E-MailIf you decide that face to face is too hard, then another consideration would be to write a letter or an email. It's a long way from face to face but we believe it's better than the phone. It also gives a form of closure and in it, maybe you can offer to meet and discuss things if they would like. It may be easier for you to meet them after you have done this, which would be great. TelephoneOf course there is the option of using the phone. The thing with the phone is that it's almost as hard as face to face but not nearly as good. So for this reason we recommend that you just do it the hard way. However, many of the guys that we spoke with say that they like this method so maybe it works better for other guys than for us... who knows. The advantage, of course, is that you can't see his/her face, and can hang up at any time. No one likes this part of a relationship and rightfully so. I mean who wants to walk up to the boy/girl you have been dating for the past year and tell him/her that it's over? This said, many times it's necessary to do it and it should be done with thought and consideration. Make sure that this is the right thing to do so that you don't regret it later.
